The best Russian TV series of recent years

Kidney
I have written many times that this series was one of the first to restore my faith in the Russian small screen.
After years of cop shows and dumbest sitcoms, coming across something of quality, thoughtful, moralistic, colorful and entertaining was unexpectedly pleasant.\n\nSo the series about an official of a small hand, not bent on taking bribes, getting high and reveling in her small power, who suddenly needed a kidney transplant, and the queue there wowogo – it is, as far as I am concerned, the very breakthrough of the impenetrable shroud of chthony old serials.
\nA project about how a character changes, the dramatic and ironic situations that accompany it, and how cynicism is replaced by compromise is an extravaganza.\n\n\n Anyway, here’s the plan
I’m a big fan of projects about scammers and scams. But I’ve never seen anything like this from Russian content creators.
And when I came across this project, I was surprised twice – both by the theme (a team of crooks are recruited by the government giving the choice of prison or a job) and by how wonderfully done it is.
The plotting, the execution, the dialogues, the filming, the humor, the moves – everything is absolutely beautiful here!
\n\n House arrest The last minister
For many years it seemed that there would be no political satire in the country. There would be pro-government jokes in KVN, loyalist passages in Kamedi, and ambiguous witticisms in the evening shows on the First Channel.
And then two projects about the lives of politicians came out at once, with satire, criticism, humor, representation and reflection of reality.
Both are hilariously funny, and despite that, very sad from their plausibility and topicality.
But the important thing is that it’s really well and successfully done.
\n\n Soap drama
Hilarious project about the backstage of domestic TV with Burunov in the title role – this is not a sitcom in its purest form, but one of the funniest projects on Russian small screens.
The humor, cynicism and irony in Burunov’s performance is just gold of situations and quotes.
\n\n My mom’s penguins
A dramatic story about a large family where the only native child feels deprived and superfluous, written and filmed with the participation of Moscow comedians – one of the best projects I’ve seen on Russian streaming services.
A project about family, about love, about growing up, about priorities, about happiness and unhappiness, this is a really strong sincere and candid work full of both laughter and pain.
\n\n Epidemic
It is hard not to recall the prophetic Russian project, which was appreciated worldwide during the pandemic.
The series about survival in a world attacked by a deadly virus that tests people and society for strength is well written and filmed, and as realistic as possible.
\n\n Hello, it’s time for you to go The penultimate instance Passengers Close the gestalt
Soulful projects about death, with thoughtful philosophy and filled with reflection on the meaning of life and the consequences of actions – this is something definitely new on Russian screens, and in my opinion it speaks of the growing awareness of society, if we are ready to watch it.
And, surprisingly, all the projects shot on the subject turned out to be well-made, high-quality projects, which are both interesting and easy to watch, regardless of what genre the authors chose – comedy or drama.
