Paapa Essiedu may play Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series

Harry Potter fans, get ready! HBO are considering British actor Paapa Essieda for one of the important roles in the upcoming reboot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, the star of the movie Rod Male has been approached to play Severus Snape in the new film adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books. It is unclear at this time if negotiations have begun between the parties.
Of course, many fans of the franchise are already outraged by the choice. They say that this is the first negative signal, so we can expect more such casting decisions in the future. For the main characters, viewers are already worried.
Snape is a Potions professor at Hogwarts who appears as the antagonist in J.K. Rowling’s debut novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone . This role was played in the films by the late Alan Rickman, whose interpretation of the character has become iconic.
So far, no actor has been officially confirmed for the remake. Earlier it was reported that Mark Rylance may get the role of Albus Dumbledore. It was also indicated that the team has already chosen young actors for the roles of the main trio.
If Essiedu gets the role of Snape, HBO will keep its promise of a diverse cast. Previously, the films have been criticized for having an almost all-white main cast.
The show is expected to premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.
