On October 4, on the streaming service Netflix premiered the long-awaited direct sequel to the Spanish dystopian thriller Platform . As it is not hard to guess, the plot again takes the viewer to the pit, an experimental prison. Vertically located cells are connected by a single well, on which once a day descends a platform with a variety of food. And the lower the level a person is on, the less likely they are to get food. And every 30 days, prisoners are moved between levels, which adds joy or despair to their lives. Unfortunately, the 5-year wait for the sequel ended in mild disappointment, because firstly we were again not given answers to the exciting questions, and secondly, the novelty is essentially a prequel, not a direct continuation of the first part. An unexpected prequel to Roman Polanski’s cult film Rosemary’s Baby . Trying to return to the stage, her path turns into a series of failed auditions. One day on the street she is noticed by a nice elderly couple. The old people decide to help the girl and put her in an apartment of an elite complex. However, after one after another terrible events begin to happen. This movie was directed by Natalie Erica James, the director of the notable 2020 horror film Reliquary. Visual quotation of Polanski’s film is traced throughout the tape, but whether the prequel can get the same cult status – the answer is unambiguous, of course not. Apartment 7A. 6th place

A new psychological thriller that really manages to surprise you with its ending. In the center of the plot are two former classmates Heather and Carla, who have not seen each other for many years. Unexpectedly, Heather invites Carla to a meeting and asks her to kill her husband because she is tired of his cheating. As an argument, Heather recalls that Carla brutally killed a pigeon in her youth, which means that she is capable of such a thing. For killing her husband, Heather promises the needy and also pregnant Carla a generous reward. It’s quite a chamber movie that demonstrates how longstanding grudges can transform into a cunning revenge plan. The Wasp. 5th place

The main character Lori owns a warehouse and one night is left in charge of the security guard. During a seemingly routine shift, the girl discovers an unconscious man locked up in room 234, who is bedridden and has clearly had a kidney removed. A horrified Lori tries to contact the police, but in vain. And soon, unidentified men arrive at a remote warehouse with the intention of taking the contents of Box 234. Sharp thriller, which I learned about completely by accident. The film was directed by the director of the comedy Hitch Method, and played by Isabelle Fuhrman, the star of the horror film Child of Darkness and Don Johnson. And although the movie is clearly made for pennies, and the action itself unfolds within the warehouse, the viewing flies by with interest. Cell 234. 4th place

Now the two cleaners will have to work together to put an end to the case. This is in a way a small movie that fails to surprise the viewer with scale or plot, but keeps them at the screen due to the chemistry of the two central actors. And by the way, Brad Pitt and George Clooney each received $45 million for their roles, which made up most of the budget of the movie itself. Lone Wolves. 3rd place

A remake of the acclaimed Danish thriller, the digital release of which has finally arrived. The Dalton family is vacationing at a resort in Italy, where they meet a liberated British couple and their mute son. Soon they offer them to stay with them in their private home. The heroes agree, but later begin to regret the arrival. After all, the owners of the house behave very strangely and gradually open with a horrifying side. The original tape became a real screen nightmare about the boundaries of politeness and tolerance. The English-language version sets the accents somewhat differently, but also demonstrates the most discomforting and uncomfortable spectacle, from which, nevertheless, it is simply impossible to tear yourself away. For this, of course, we should thank actor James McAvoy, who is amazingly successful in the role of maniacs. Do not tell anyone. 2nd place

This year’s surprise movie, which I didn’t know existed until its digital release. Stalker is something between a psychological thriller and a survival horror. The narrative of the movie is non-linear and divided into 6 chapters. The plot revolves around a chance meeting of a guy and a girl, who decided to have fun. Time passes, and here we see a frightened heroine, who runs away through the forest from an angry guy with a gun in his hands. Before watching it, you may think that we are already the hundredth tape about a maniac and the last girl, but gradually you realize that we are facing an intelligent movie that breaks the usual stereotypes and asks tricky questions – is a woman really always a victim, and a man – a potential rapist? Stalker. Deserved 1st place
