6 years of life and 28 years of unsuccessful murder investigation: JonBenet Ramsey

The name of the 6-year-old girl JonBenet Ramsey is known to almost everyone. For 28 years, the world has believed she was murdered by her own family. And her father, mother and brother have been trying to prove that she wasn’t.

JonBenet Ramsey was born into a wealthy family. Her father ran a company with revenues of a billion dollars. Her mother ran the household and took her to children’s beauty contests. And in her free time the girl played with her brother Burke.

After celebrating Christmas, the Ramsey family was preparing to travel to another city to spend time with relatives. But on Dec. 26, the mother woke up in the morning to find a ransom note. It said that 6-year-old Jonbenet had been kidnapped and they demanded $118,000 for her release.

Next thing you know, there was a 911 call. The police arrived. The parents called their friends to support them in this difficult moment. For 7 hours, the Ramsey couple, their friends and the police waited for the kidnappers to call, but no one did….

The father went to go around the house and found the girl’s body in the basement. She had been strangled with a garrote, her skull was damaged and she had been sexually assaulted.

So a kidnapping case turned into a murder case.

From the very beginning, the police began to suspect that the girl had been killed by members of her family. And they had many reasons for this: The ransom note was written using a pen and notebook that were lying in the kitchen. Experts saw evidence that the handwriting of the note’s author matched that of the mother. The garrote was made from the mother’s paintbrush. There was no sign of forced entry or of any outsider being at the scene….. The parents‘ behavior was strange and their testimony contained contradictions.

With the help of the press, these suspicions of family members‘ culpability in the girl’s murder became public. And over the past 28 years, the world has convinced itself that JonBenet Ramsey either accidentally killed her mother and tried to cover her tracks. Or her brother did it during a game and her mother tried to cover her tracks.

At the same time, the Ramsey couple and their son have repeatedly appeared before the media and tried to assure society of their innocence. Recently, JonBenét Ramsey’s father became the hero of another documentary about this high-profile case – Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey 2024. Here the audience saw all the same known facts about this case, but this time they were presented in such a way that the guilt of the Ramsey family looks like a fiction of incompetent police. And it is quite interesting to watch how the facts, which in other documentary projects looked like ironclad proof of guilt, look like nonsense and nonsense in the new project.

The father of JonBenet Ramsey is trying to get the DNA found on the girl’s underwear analyzed to find the killer. (Now there is a technology that can find the criminal, even if he is not in the database – first similarities with his relatives are built, and from there the specific person is calculated).
